They exist to start conversations that too many people are afraid to have: about pain, silence, and survival. As someone who’s lived through moments that almost ended me, I know firsthand that suicide prevention isn’t just about saving lives—it’s about understanding the pain that leads there.

Throughout the month, organizations, communities, and survivors come together to share resources, host events, and remind people that help is available and hope is real.

When Is World Suicide Prevention Day?

World Suicide Prevention Day is observed on September 10th each year. The theme often changes, but the goal remains the same—to create connection, compassion, and courage to talk about suicide without shame.

It’s a day to remember lives lost, support survivors, and recommit to the work of prevention. Because awareness alone isn’t enough—it’s the action we take after that saves lives.

How Suicide Affects Those Left Behind

Suicide doesn’t just end one life—it ripples through families, friends, and communities.

The people left behind often carry grief, guilt, confusion, and unanswered questions.

Many blame themselves, wondering what signs they missed or what they could have said differently. This is why postvention (support for those left behind) is just as important as prevention. In my EBOOK HERE, I address all of this.
